PPG's oh my!

1 min read
So, I've been thinking I've been horribly slacking on making PPG's lately, and would like your opinions on who to do next! I am thinking more Avatar PPG's would be fun, but I can branch out and do other PPG's as well. Who would you like to see done? Are there any characters I haven't done or you'd like to see again (updated with new looks) from the Avatar series or even a series that isn't Avatar?

Alright, call me slightly psychotic, but I am curious what dimensions I would need if I were printing a 20"x20" 300dpi (resolution) Photoshop image? I'm trying to go by minimum pixels, so that I don't have to be zooming in at a ridiculous size just to get to 100% of the image. My current dimension specs are sitting at 3200 pixels for height and width. I really want to cut this down...by a LOT so I don't have to struggle so much with block colors and shading on my poor little laptop. I've been looking around for ideas, but I'm stumped. Are there any suggestions on this? Could I get away with 1000 pixels for height and width? Would the image still turn out alright, or would it be grainy printing at 20x20? Any help by experts on printing, would be greatly appreciated!

Wha...?

Seriously? I have 343 people watching my account? O.o That's just wild! I haven't even updated in like... a half a year. Now you all are making me feel horrible about my massive artist block. Sigh. Well, I'm taking a PS class to better help me understand the program, so hopefully I can do more exciting things with my art soon. School, work and making time for friends are not conducive to leaving some free time for art. >.< I feel very honored that so many people are watching me, but I feel a bit shy about it. Thank you, to everyone, for your comments, favorites and watches!

NDK....SHOCK!

7 min read
So this year I went to NDK since I didn't go last year. I thought I was going to have trouble paying for it, but it turns out, it worked out well in my favor!

Friday morning I went to school as per usual, then rushed home to print out some high quality glossies of my Avatar PPGs for the Art Show. I would have done more, but I only had 10 frames and by the time I finished it was already 6pm. Yikes! I rushed around like crazy trying to get everything together for the con only to realize when I was on the road that I forgot my music CDs for the karaoke competition! Oh NO! Friday night was a bit of a rush for me as well and was complicated with badge and room (or lack there of), but it was sorted out fairly shortly, so it wasn't too big of a deal. Oh, and I didn't eat ANYTHING Friday. I was just too busy and nervous to eat anything. >.>

Saturday rolled around and I kept checking back into the Art Room to see how my Avatar PPGs were doing. There were only two that had any bids, Azula and Mei. I wasn't selling my pieces for much at all, as I was only trying to make the base profits enough for covering the con costs. So  you can imagine I was feeling a bit nervous about only having two bids out of ten, but I figured I could still scrounge by for the weekend if I was frugal with food rationing. Luckily the friends I stayed with brought some back up food! Yay! So I had a bit of dried squid, Vietnamese jerky and a cup of noodles (I love you guys! <3 ). I also bought a Wendy's #2 medium combo for brunch. I could only eat half the burger, though I had all the fries (I love Wendy fries).
Later that same day, I was waiting in line for the AMV's when a model recruiter scouted me. It was a bit odd to be scouted at a con, let me tell you. She seemed very surprised by my age. I guess I looked a bit younger...? Anyway, she said I should expect a call this week from her employer. I am somewhat interested in the experience. After the AMV's were done (there were only about 8 out of 30 I was impressed with), I quickly checked the art room, and saw two more bids on two of my pieces, I was very happy! Next, I stood in line for the costume contest. I only stayed for the first two hours of it, however, as I still wanted to sign up for the Karaoke competition.
Since I didn't have any CDs with me I thought I'd do the Mononoke Hime (Princess Mononoke) theme song in both Japanese and English A Capella style as I was very comfortable with that song. During the wait for sign-up, I met up with some of my con friends that I haven't seen in two years and was very thrilled to meet some really great new friends as well! So I was one of four people to sing in Japanese for the competition (there were 21 singers all together) and I was super nervous. I asked the crowd if they wanted me to sing in only Japanese, only English or both. Everyone shouted for both, so I did both. The nerve wracking part was due to the audience not saying a word (no side conversations) while I sang. No other noise, but the sound of my voice. All the other contestants at least had some side conversations or audience participation going on to mask any mistakes. Yikes! As the competition came to a close and the winners were announced, I became very nervous that I would not place until I learned that they split the categories in two for this year. One for English and one for Japanese. Each had four awards to give. So I knew I would at least get a prize. The English awards went first. The girl who one first place, sang "Eyes on Me" and was very, very impressive. She moved fluidly with the music, where I was rather stiff when I sang.
The Japanese competition winners were announced next. As fourth and third place were taken by other talents, I knew I was solid for second behind my friend who sang so amazingly. Yet, I was by-passed for second as well. To say that surprised was on my face would be quite shallow. It was more of a shocked/stunned/deer caught in the headlights sort of look. After that, the English and Japanese first place winners were to have a sing off to see who would get a copy of "The Galaxy Railways" signed my Chris Patton. I didn't realize we were supposed to sing *two* songs for karaoke, and as I came without my CDs I was worried again! You can imagine my scrabble to try and figure out what to sing. My friend Sabrina, luckily, had some Karaoke CDs and I chose First Love by Utada Hikaku. Sadly, I couldn't finish the song and I could of sworn I was flat as I sang the song, but some how I managed to bet out the English singer by audience applause. At that point I just couldn't fathom why I won, but I was super grateful as I really enjoy the movie "The Galaxy Railways" and to have it signed by Chris was such a treasure to me. After that, the Karaoke somewhat winded down and I went up to my room to sleep for the rest of the night.

As Sunday rolled around, I quickly got up to check the Art room to see how my art was doing. I had bids on everything but one piece, so I was very, very happy that my con had been pretty much paid for. So that day I signed the glass that covered each piece as a thank you. It was much more personal than the digital signature I have on the site so I thought the buyers might enjoy it. I then went to observe the Tea Ceremony and sat through one hour of it before I left to look again at my art pieces and saw that *two* of my ten pieces were going to the auction and every single one had a bid! My con was paid for! So I left to do some Yoga with Jan (it's always done at the end of the con). Only to come back for the live auction and see that THREE of my pictures were going to be featured in the auction. Needless to say, I was thrilled to see even one of my pieces go to the live auction as it had never happened before! My con was paid for by these pieces and I am forever grateful for that.
The closing ceremonies were the usual simple but nice speeches by the hosts and guests. We did the end clap and "yo" to end it, and I am seriously looking forward to next year! This has inspired me to draw more and develop myself more. I am very thankful for this con as it has connected me with old friends and done so much for boosting my self confidence.

...So, yeah...

Wow. I feel a bit, uh, guilty for not posting anything "Avatar" lately. ^^; I've been preoccupied with a few things, but I really have no good excuse. So, I'm going to try to get as much done as possible, someday soon. I hope. Anyway, sorry to those that have watched me and thought I'd fallen off the face of the earth. I really haven't. Well, in the literal sense, I suppose.
